Our Purpose For Tree Day
Tree Day is the most powerful method we have discovered to deliver our mission in Tennessee, engaging Tennesseans of all ages and backgrounds in conservation solutions that will benefit communities for decades to come. Tennessee Tree Day 2021 will involve hundreds of stakeholder groups and thousands of volunteers in replacing trees lost to development, repairing degraded streams, improving water quality, restoring health to terrestrial and aquatic riparian habitats, increasing habitat and forage for wildlife and pollinators, reducing air pollution, improving community aesthetics and enhancing Tennessee's magnificent tree canopy.
Tree Day engages thousands of Tennesseans in a fun, meaningful, family friendly, educational experience with multigenerational benefits to our environment, communities and health. The purpose of this activity is to instill public awareness of the value of trees, improve the health of our environment and communities through the multitude of benefits trees offer, and to nurture a culture of sustainability in our region.

Community Benefits: This annual event provides multigenerational benefits to our environment, wildlife, communities and the well-being of people as trees grow and mature for 50 to 250 years, and kids that helped their parents plant trees watch those trees grow year after year. Tennessee Tree Day provides an accountability among residents to nourish their environment and community. Not only does this action provide a gift to future generations, trees planted through this program serve as conduits to a cleaner environment by reducing greenhouse gases, restoring our watersheds by absorbing harmful toxins and runoff, and establishing new and enhanced wildlife and pollinator habitat. |
Environmental Benefits: According to data from Urban Forestry Network, US Forest Service and other reputable sources, we have calculated the following benefits of the 750,000 trees we will have planted at the conclusion of Tree Day 2021. These benefits assume an 80% survival rate, and 50 year life-span of trees planted.

Our Needs For Tree Day 2021
Like every year, Tree Day 2021 is only possible with the help of our sponsors, regional hubs, pick-up site leaders, volunteers, and those who plant our trees. With rapid urban and suburban development of our region, the need for being intentional about maintaining our biological diversity and even enhancing it is all the more important. Furthermore, tree-planting efforts could make significant contributions to mitigating global warming and its impacts worldwide. In a politically conservative climate like Tennessee, planting trees is one solution that our citizenry readily adopts. We are the only organization that employs a proactive, statewide strategy for engaging Tennesseans in this effort. We offer a variety of sponsorship levels directed at corporate sponsors, Stormwater/MS4 sponsors, and Co-op sponsors. |

Since 2007, the Tennessee Tree Project has mobilized over 60,000 Tennessee residents in planting 637,100 native trees in Tennessee and beyond. Each year Tennessee Tree Day engages thousands of volunteers in a fun, meaningful, family friendly, educational experience with multi-generational benefits to our environment, communities and public health. On Tree Day 2020 we hope to engage 20,000 volunteers in planting thousands of native trees in all 95 Tennessee counties as well as neighboring counties encompassing all watersheds of major rivers that flow through Tennessee. The purpose of this activity is to instill public awareness of the value of trees, improve the health of our environment and communities through the multitude of benefits trees offer, and to nurture a culture of sustainability in our region.
