Here is what Victoria had to say:

"It has been one year since I met a TEC rep at the French Fest in Nashville and my composting got kickstarted!  Just thought I’d share some photos for fun. In the pics are me with my big composting bin and then some of the beautiful plants (peppers, tomatoes, and herbs) that are thriving because of my compost! Thanks for getting me started and for all of your advice and information over the past year. I will always support your efforts!"

]]><![CDATA[Congrats to May's "Composter of the Month" Robert Johnson of Davidson County!]]>Tue, 02 Jun 2020 15:00:58 GMThttps://www.tectn.org/community-success-stories/congrats-to-mays-composter-of-the-month-robert-johnson-of-davidson-countyCongratulations to Robert Johnson of Davidson County for being May's "Composter of the Month"! For Robert, this couldn't have come at a better time as it was a perfect way to celebrate his birthday. When asked to share about his composting efforts, Robert had this to say:

"The composter is made of double glazed window units from my in-laws window replacement, held together with scraps bits of 2"x4" and giant piano hinge lids screwed directly into the plastic of two of the windows, total cost about $5. It is a rectangle (with a part out of shot toward the camera, which is not filled up with compost) in an attempt to build a hot bed, with the idea that I can start seedlings in the winter/spring surrounded by glass, heated by the compost. I didn't get a chance to put any seedlings in this winter/spring, so I don't know if it works yet!

I knew my time spent talking about composting would not win me the prize, but I did wonder if regular reporting might get me in the running, through sheer doggedness of reporting!

Also, I decided a few years ago to include liquids in my composting (kids drinks leftovers, mainly) and that really increases the weight of my compost tub.

I'm signed up for the recycling bin auditing as well. Thank you so much for all you do. The USA is so far behind on environmental care, and yet such an important part of the world's health, that your work is vital."

After submitting his totals regularly and contributing to "Come, Post Your Compost," Jason is the winner of a well-deserved $100 prize!

Pictured next to the "freshest" of his five piles, you can see Jason holding his tool of choice, a 10-tine bedding fork. He even goes the extra mile in helping reduce the amount of food waste in Tennessee's landfills by collecting the scraps from the neighbors on his street. Jason hopes that one day he can learn how to raise composting chickens so his compost can turn into soil and eggs to share. Keep up the good work, Jason!
