John McFadden
Executive Director

McFadden is currently working towards a PhD in Health and Human Performance with research interests in urban greenway ecology.  He has 21 years of conservation experience supported by an undergraduate degree in secondary education and a Masters Degree in biology. Previously, he served as the Director of Science and Restoration for the Harpeth River Watershed Association and has over ten years of experience teaching college biology.  His conservation experience includes a wide array of environmental sampling, watershed planning, modeling, river restoration, and project management.  In addition, he has been recognized by the federal and state (Tennessee and Florida) court systems as an expert on water quality related matters. McFadden has been involved in the past three years in stakeholder based watershed restoration planning and implementation. Through past positions he is also familiar with pollution and toxics assessment, hazardous waste operations, energy efficiency, and volunteer training.  He has presented/authored papers at scientific meetings including: More than Data Collectors: Young People in Civic Action; Greenway Ecology: A Pilot Study; Does Your Greenway Function Ecologically?; Volunteer Visual Stream Survey in the Harpeth River Watershed; and Tennessee Ground Water: A Resource at Risk.  McFadden has twice (1992 and 2004) been named Conservationist of the Year by the Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association.                        He lives in Wilson County with his son Elijah, both are avid outdoorsmen and enjoy backpacking, sailing, canoeing and mountain biking.
