1. Tickets are now on sale for the 2006 Green Tie Affair, TEC’s annual fundraiser.

2. Governor wants alternative fuels infrastructure.

Gov. Phil Bredesen signed an order creating an interagency working group charged with developing an alternative fuels strategy for Tennessee.      Read more

 

2006 Governor’s Land & Water Forum on February 22-23, 2006 at Montgomery Bell State Park. This initiative will cover the past years’ accomplishments and focus on issues and needs in the forthcoming year, as well as establishing priorities and keeping the lines of communication open. 3. Save Saturday March 11th for tree planting at the Cane Creek wetland

 The City has 1,000 trees coming to re-vegetate the area that has been regraded for a wetland.  These trees are 3-4 foot "whips" with bare roots and MUST be planted ASAP. The ground should be soft and the technique will be to open a cut with a   planting spade and put the tree in the slot.  

Rubber or waterproof boots advised. Planting will start at 10 a.m.  All SOCM members and all other tree lovers invited. For more information contact Brian Paddock at 931-268-2938 or bpaddock@twlakes.net.

 

4. Greening Tennessee’s Campuses

A Conference on Environmental Sustainability and Compliance in Tennessee Higher Education is being planned to explore and advance environmental stewardship within the state’s institutes of higher education.  The conference represents the first step in organizing Tennessee institutes of higher education to respond to the challenges and opportunities of building a sustainable, environmental ethic on campus.

Kilowatt Ours – A Plan to Re-Energize America

Presents Practical Solutions to America’s Energy-Related Problems

Friday, March 3rd at Hume Fogg High School

 

Students across Nashville will bring Kilowatt OursA Plan to Re-Energize America to Hume Fogg High School on Friday, March 3rd.  Kilowatt Ours is the story of filmmaker and conservationist Jeff Barrie's 18 month journey across the southeast United States to document our energy related problems and present practical solutions. The film discusses America’s energy plan and how citizens and lawmakers can take action to increase energy efficiency in our homes, schools, and work places. We're paying a higher price than our electric bills reflect- mountaintop removal, air pollution and childhood asthma are all connected to the way we use energy. 

 

This showing is sponsored and orchestrated by student groups including: The Hume-Fogg Student Environmental Outreach Coalition, The Student Environmental Alliance (a citywide coalition of student environmental groups), the Nashville Youth Leadership Program and the Vanderbilt SPEAR. Other sponsoring groups include the Oasis Center, MTG Sierra Club, Trust for the Future, and the Southern Energy Conservation Initiative.
